New Member – Glen Habbershaw

Posted By Angela Hausman

Our newest member, Glen Habbershaw, began his New Member Talk by thanking his sponsors, John Elrick and Dave Sweeney, along with his mentor, Sharon Gromling, for their support and welcoming him to the club.

With humor, he opened by declaring it time for winter to end, recalling a formative

memory of walking to school in Quebec City in minus-50-degree temperatures during a

snowstorm that froze his eyelids shut. The experience of learning French in Quebec launched a global career in education. It first took him to Japan, where he spent three remarkable years teaching at Miyagino Senior High School. He later worked with Cambridge University at the Berlin School of English before continuing his international journey to Argentina.

Throughout his travels, one constant remained: education is not simply what he does – it is who he is. He spoke passionately about the joy of seeing understanding “click” for students and about recognizing the responsibility that comes with opportunity. For him, service means helping others grow and leaving every community better than he found it—a principle rooted in his Boy Scout days and reflected in Rotary’s “Service Above Self.”

He expressed gratitude for already serving on club committees and looks forward to contributing to Winchester Rotary and the broader community.
