Last week, fellow Rotarians Jenny Grooms and Emily Burner of the Valley Health Foundation (Front Royal RC) shared an ambitious and inspiring plan to bring healthcare directly to people who have difficulty accessing it.

Bridging the Gap in Rural Healthcare

More than 70% of the counties Valley Health serves are rural. In these areas, several barriers often stand between patients and the medical care they desperately need:

• Long travel distances to medical facilities.

• Lack of reliable transportation.

• The inability to miss a day of work to travel for an appointment.

The Solution: A Mobile Health Clinic

To address this challenge, Jenny and Emily proposed an innovative answer: a mobile health clinic capable of taking primary and preventive care directly into these underserved communities.

Once operational, the clinic is expected to serve more than 3,000 patients a year. Key features of the clinic will include:

• Routine Care: Screenings, vaccinations, and physicals.

• Telehealth Technology: Providing patients with instant, on-the-spot access to specialists.

Rotary’s Crucial Role

Rotary may play a significant role in making this project happen. The Rotary Club of Front Royal is leading an effort to secure a Rotary Global Grant, partnering with a Rotary club in Ghana and other clubs throughout the region.

Past District Governor Brett Hrbek joined the discussion to help explain how Rotary’s matching funds can heavily multiply local contributions to make a massive impact.

Funding Goals & Timeline

To get the mobile clinic on the road, the collaborative effort has set the following targets:

• The Financial Goal: Raise $100,000 toward equipment for the $540,000 mobile clinic.

• International Support: 15% of that money must come from outside the US.

• Target Timeline: The hope is to have the grant successfully implemented by the second quarter of next year.
