Program October 22, 2026

Posted By John Elrick

Our program last week was presented by our own Glen Habbershaw. Besides being a busy Rotarian, Glen is also the current president of the Winchester Toastmasters Club. His presentation highlighted the idea behind the partnership between Rotary and Toastmasters International: whether you’re speaking to a room full of people, leading a committee, or simply trying to get your point across, good communication skills make a difference.

A bit of a poster child himself for the skills one can acquire through Toastmasters, Glen explained that the organization offers a welcoming, learn-at-your-own-pace approach to building confidence in public speaking, leadership, and everyday communication. Through its Pathways program, members can explore everything from persuasive speaking and motivational leadership to using humor effectively. And these aren’t just skills for the podium – they’re equally valuable in the workplace, in community service, and in our own Rotary activities.

Glen also shared that he was the recipient of the Winchester Toastmasters Club’s Dr. Dave Miles Toastmaster of the Year Award, recognizing outstanding mentorship and community service. As many of you will remember, Dave was a beloved member of our Rotary club, and it’s especially meaningful to see his legacy continue through this award.

For anyone curious about Toastmasters, Glen extended a warm invitation to visit one of their meetings—no speaking required! The Winchester Toastmasters Club meets on the first and third Tuesdays every month at The George Washington Hotel.
